The Scene: Patriotic Americans from across the country joined forces June 27 to honor the nation’s most esteemed heroes and fallen soldiers at Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom (600 E. Grand) for the sixt annual dinner and auction. More than 300 saluting partygoers acknowledged the efforts of the armed forces while dancing to music by Sixteen Candles and dining on local Chicago delacacies.
The invite list: Prior to stepping onto the red, white and blue dance floor, guests listened to the moving stories of Medal of Honor recipient Sammy L. Davis and Folds of Honor scholarship recipient Crissie Carpenter—a young mother who lost her husband weeks before the birth of their son. On display for auction was a refurbished Model T Ford, clad in camouflage with vintage touches.
The bottom line: The Folds of Honor Foundation,which raised $600,000 at the event, is a nonprofit committeed to providing educational opportunitieds for the children of soliders who have lost their lives on the battlefield. – Beth Delaney
